On Sunday 10th September 2017, Au Events held our first official sportive; La Roue d'Or.
Met with lots of smiling faces on a rather foggy morning, we got everyone moving in good time and sent them off to do one of four sportive routes. The Family ride was loved by those who only wanted a short, easy ride or for those with kids. Because we purposefully made sure the Family course was on smaller roads, away from the majority of traffic, it made sure everyone could be safe and confident as they cruised through the picturesque countryside. The treasure hunt for the kids also seemed like a hit!
The other routes; Gold, Epic and Ultra at 50, 85 and 150 miles respectively were for people looking for a longer day out and more of a challenge.
These routes took riders from our HQ at Lingwood Village Hall out to the coast for a jaunt around Mundesley and Cromer before heading back inland and home for the 50 and 85 riders. The hardcore Ultra riders carried on up to Blakeney before they turned for home!
Due to the severe weather later in the day, combining torrential rain with very strong head winds, only two of our riders made the full 150 mile course. Finally returning to event HQ at 8pm, cold, wet and tired but in good spirits, Lee and Mark had earned their rest and our total respect!
Everyone we were able to speak to at the event was overwhelmingly positive about how relaxed and welcoming the staff were, how well planned and signed the routes were and how well the event was run. We're massively pleased by this reaction to our first event and can't wait to organise 2018's rides!
We're busy collecting feedback and we already have a few things we'll be improving for next year. We'd love to hear from you if you have anything you'd like to see changed or improved.
